Cannabis sativa without THC – what’s the difference?

What is the difference between THC and CBD? How do they work? How do they differ and what are their common features?

The topic of cannabis is constantly revolving around its psychoactive effects. Some people are unaware that the health-promoting hemp and the psychoactive cannabis plant are two different types of plants. It is true that both types of cannabis belong to one family, but their use and the effect of using their different forms is very difficult to compare.

People who have doubts about the legality of products, dried and hemp seeds can rest easy – these plants have been cultivated in Poland for hundreds of years. They are completely legal to grow, buy and eat.

How is CBD different from THC?

CBD is otherwise cannabidiol. It is the second most widely used active ingredient in the hemp plant. While CBD is an essential ingredient in medical marijuana, it comes directly from the cannabis plant, which is the cousin of the marijuana plant. CBD is present from hemp grown in Poland for hundreds of years. According to the WHO – World Health Organization position, CBD does not show any effects indicative of potential abuse or the possibility of addiction. CBD oils and products are completely legal and freely available.

Cannadidiol has a real effect on supporting the treatment and alleviating the symptoms of many health problems, ranging from chronic neurological diseases to skin problems and problems related to insomnia. CBD has also been shown to help treat pain of varying severity. It is a natural, beneficial remedy for many ailments. Controversies related to the name cannabis, in turn, revolve around the psychoactive THC, the action of which causes the so-called „High”. It is worth distinguishing between two issues:

  • Hemp has a pro-health effect, it has been used in the Polish industry for hundreds of years. Products made from hemp are rich in beneficial nutrients, Omega acids and many essential vitamins (e.g. vitamin E). It is also worth mentioning the healing effect of CBD, the deprived psychoactive effect that is present in oils, hemp tea and other natural products, cosmetics and supplements.
  • The cannabis plant belongs to the same species as hemp, but its appearance, properties and uses are completely different from those of the hemp plant. In Poland and many other countries, the cultivation and possession of cannabis is prohibited. Marijuana has a high concentration of THC with a psychoactive effect. In Poland, it is considered a drug.

Hemp without THC – the healing effect of

CBD is becoming a natural alternative and effective support in the treatment of various types of chronic pain. Some studies have also shown that it can reduce inflammation, which is a good option for treating arthritis. Products made from hemp, such as hemp oil, hemptea, and hemp matcha (ideal as an addition to cocktails, salads, porridge, etc.) are a healthy and desirable addition to a balanced diet.

Hemp oil is a real mine of phytosterols, real vitamin E, a huge dose of healthy Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids, as well as a high content of plant protein (20-25%). In addition, tangible health benefits are brought by the phytic acid, choline, lecithin, chlorophyll, vitamin K and tocopherol contained in hemp. When it comes to minerals, you can find calcium, zinc, phosphorus, magnesium and small amounts of iron in THC-free hemp. Cannabis without THC is a powerful tool in the fight against free radicals that cause premature aging in the body. In addition to fighting oxidative stress, cannabis without THC, i.e. Cannabis sativa L., has a beneficial effect on the health of blood vessels and broadly understood heart health.

It is a huge factual error to combine the effects of hemp with its psychoactive effects. Hemp products without THC, containing the beneficial presence of CBD and GLA acid, are an excellent, legal and, above all, natural way to improve your health, appearance and well-being. There is nothing else but to enjoy the positive effects of hemp.

TOP 7 facts about cannabis you did not know about!

Hemp has been used for centuries. They were and are appreciated not only for their health properties, but also for their versatility. How were they used?

There are several interesting uses of cannabis that are taking the form of this plant to a whole new meaning – not only industrial but also historical.

Over the years, hemp products have contributed little to the making of history and great discoveries that have revolutionized the world. Some uses of cannabis may surprise you, but one thing is for sure – these plants have been around for thousands of years.

Here are 7 fun facts about cannabis that you didn’t know about!

1. Ford from hemp

One of the amazing facts about useful hemp is the amazing durability of its fibers. Hemp is used in the production of durable fabrics and in the construction industry. Interestingly, the world-famous FORD, in 1941 produced the first car made of hemp! Not only the bodywork and joints are made of a mixture of substances made of hemp. The engine of the vehicle was powered by special hemp fuel. Although nowadays such an ECO car would be very enthusiastically welcomed, at that time, the hemp car was approached a bit more critically. Nevertheless, the vehicle worked, it was incredibly durable and much lighter than the massive cars made of steel. What prompted Henry Ford to implement such an innovative project was the shortage of metals, especially steel, which was successively transferred to the needs of the military during World War II.

2. The Emperor’srobes

hempJapan has been using hemp in the weaving industry since the dawn of history. In the Edo period, it was admittedly the material from which kimonos were made for the lower social class. Nevertheless, Japanese religious tradition required the emperor to wear hemp robes. This plant had a sacred meaning in Japan – very important to Hinduism. The tradition of wearing hemp robes is still valid today (the Japanese are traditionalists), and decorative Japanese fabrics with hemp fibers are a valuable import product.

3. One hectare of hemp in 3 months produces as much oxygen as a 60-year-old forest.

One of the amazing advantages of hemp, which has a significant impact on the environment, is its unique feature of negative (!) CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions. When growing freely, a hemp plantation absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and produces more oxygen than an old forest of the same size. According to the GWP determinant, i.e. the generally accepted Greenhouse Effect Potential, cannabis shows a negative result! It is – 0.62 kg of CO2 equivalents. Cannabis not only retains CO2, but also produces huge amounts of oxygen, and its cultivation does not contribute to dangerous, global warming.

4. Hemp – giant

Many people, when they think about cannabis, imagine little green bushes. Nothing could be more wrong! Even in the prehistoric era, the land was covered by the so-called hemp forest. The hemp of that time was real giants, the height of which could even exceed several meters. The current species of cultivated hemp are the great-grandchildren of this prehistoric plant. However, they have a similar appearance and incredible height. The average length of hemp, in good cultivation conditions is about 4 – 5 meters, but the hemp has ideal conditions for development and the right climate, it can grow up to 8 meters! This height exceeds the level of the 2nd floor of an apartment block.

5. More durable than jeans – hempHemp

clothesclothes have been known for thousands of years. The long and solid fibers of the hemp plant are incredibly durable – more durable than most known natural materials. Hemp was once a very common and valued material in the weaving industry. The hemp fields did not require as much water and fertilizer as, for example, a cotton field. What’s better, even after the harvest, the hemp plantations left the soil in perfect condition. Hemp fabrics are very durable and almost indestructible. Additionally, depending on the accessories, they are very pleasant to the touch and aesthetic. Natural and ecological, durable leashes, collars and bridles for pets are also made of hemp.

6.always been legal

Hemp hasEven before the outbreak of World War II, hemp occupied several dozen hectares of cultivated fields in Poland. At that time, people had not heard of psychoactive cannabis and no one had any doubts about the legality of cannabis. Unfortunately, after the „hippie” period of the 90s, cultivated cannabis, due to the incorrect association of its operation with cannabis, lost its popularity. Currently, with the growing awareness of the beneficial health effects of cultivated cannabis, they are returning to favor and becoming a desired by consumers and more and more willingly cultivated plant with many applications.

7. The Hemp House Hemp

fibers are also an ecological way to obtain a sustainable building material. It is hempcrate – hemp concrete. In addition to being ecological and perfectly muffling sounds, it is also a breathable material and perfectly insulates heat. What does this mean for residents? Lower prices for the energy needed to heat your home, reducing the risk of excessive moisture and the harmful allergenic fungus. Filling a wooden wall with hemp concrete increases its durability and prevents the natural deterioration of the wood. Although such a solution is still not very popular in construction, people who value ecological aspects are increasingly looking for healthy and environmentally friendly alternatives. This applies not only to the search for renewable energy sources, but also natural, vegan building materials. Perhaps hemp concrete will soon become the future of construction?

As you can see, hemp serves not only as an excellent supplement, food and medicinal product. Currently, hemp plants can be used to produce over 25,000 products with versatile applications in the food, medical, construction, textile, energy and many other industries.

Hemp is a plant that can help fight the problem of hunger in the world in the future (due to the high content of nutritious, valuable protein), help to improve the environment and reduce the effect of global warming and become one of the most-cultivated plants again, not only Poland, but all over the world. Already, the health benefits of hemp-derived CBD oil are appreciated by many neurologists who care for patients suffering from chronic neurological diseases such as MS (multiple sclerosis) or Alzheimer’s.

Hemp oil also helps to combat many skin problems that many specialist remedies and good cosmetics cannot cope with. The cosmetics industry is also increasingly inclined to use real hemp oil in their ECO cosmetics, and users are increasingly looking for hemp oil in various body and hair care products.

WITHOUT STRESS With cannabinoids

WITHOUT STRESS With cannabinoids

When overwhelmed with excessive anxiety associated with the invasion of coronavirus, we take care ofsystem

the immuneand alleviate stress and anxiety, which weaken the body’s ability to fight pathogens.

Until we finally recognize the nature of the Wuhan coronavirus and find measures that can destroy it, we must act on it indirectly. As more and more experts rightly point out, the key is to use common sense and ensure the best functioning of the immune system. When it is strong, your body will deal with any possible infection more easily. As you know, the stress and anxiety that accompany an epidemic affect immunity on the contrary, weakening our natural defense capacity. In this situation, cannabinoids may be a good solution – just one dose of CBD stimulates serotonin receptors, which increases the production of neurotransmitters and helps fight anxiety. What’s more, cannabidiol affects the body through the endocannabinoid system (EKAN) located in almost all of our body, which regulates not only well-being, sleep cycle and appetite, but also the functioning of the immune system burdened by excessive mental tension. This means that CBD is able to alleviate the negative effects of stress and thus improve the functioning of the entire body.

EKAN and the brain

The endocannabinoid system is involved in the regulation of the endocrine system because it inhibits and stimulates the hypothalamic-pituitary-gland axis in response to short- and long-term stress1.has

Research  shown that the CB1 receptor knockout mice learn to fear a conditional response, but – contrary

to normal animals – it can not extinguish. This means that endocannabinoids play an important role in suppressing unpleasant feelings and pain caused by recalling previous experiences. Consequently, low receptor numbers or impaired endocannabinoid release can cause post-traumatic stress disorder, phobias and various forms of chronic pain2.

The role of neurotransmitters

Researchers at the University of Sao Paulo and King’s College in London have looked atknown

CBD’s long-relationship to stress, anxiety and anxiety. It turned out that in sufficiently high doses, cannabidiol has a calming effect not only by affecting the endocannabinoid system, but also by affecting serotoninreceptors3.

Chemically speaking, this neurotransmitter is a tryptamine derivative, often abbreviated as 5-HT. It binds to receptors of different types, and cannabidiol modifies

one of them (5-HT 1A), the dysfunction of which can cause depression and anxiety. CBD stimulates it, which results in increasing the production of serotonin and dopamine which help to combat symptoms of anxiety. Research has shown that stress is reduced after a single dose of cannabidiol.

Immune

Of course, it should not be forgotten that cannabinoids also directly affect the functioning

of the immune system – this is where CB2 receptors are found. Generally speaking, CBD stimulates natural immunity and helps maintain homeostasis, i.e. harmonious conditions inside the body, giving it a chance

to defend itself against pathogens4. Overall, cannabinoids provide a double benefit. Firstly, through CB2 receptors, they directly affect the better functioning of the immune system, and secondly – they strengthen it indirectly, reducing stress and anxiety, which are among the most important factors that weaken immunity.

HEMP IN THE TEAM OF UNRUGGED LEGS

Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is classified as a neurological disorder that can affect anyone of any age. It becomes the most severe and painful as a person grows old. Sometimes RLS is referred to as Willis-Ekbom disease or Wittmaack-Ekbom syndrome. Both names come from, among others, one of the first physicians who discovered and identified RLS in 1943, Dr. Karl-Axel Ekbom.

In order to qualify as RLS, a patient must meet five specific criteria. First, she has to feel a strong urge to move her legs, usually accompanied by an unpleasant sensation of creeping under the skin. Second, the urge to move the leg must increase during periods of prolonged rest or inactivity. Third, the movement of the legs must alleviate at least some of the unpleasant sensations. Fourth, RLS has to happen most often at night. Fifthly, the need to move the legs cannot be explained by any other medical or psychological condition.

As you can see, RLS is more than an irritation for the patient. It usually leads to trouble sleeping, making the body more prone to disease, irritable moods, and lowered mental function. It is a condition that can impair a patient’s quality of life, causing not only daytime sleepiness and decreased immune function, but also greater stress and overall health decline.

Despite this long list of conditions that must be met, RLS is unfortunately quite common. This disorder affects approximately ten percent of the world’s population. It can start early in life for unknown reasons, or it can develop later, caused by factors such as poor diet (not enough magnesium or iron), exercise deficiency, and even as a side effect of certain medications.

Most cases of RLS occur for no apparent reason. It can be genetic when doctors find it in many family members who have symptoms before the age of 40 (such cases are called idiopathic or primary RLS). In other situations, doctors blame inadequate dopamine and glutamate levels in the body. Finally, RLS appears as a symptom of an undiagnosed medical condition such as iron deficiency anemia or kidney failure. In these cases, doctors call the disease secondary RLS, which is just as common in pregnant women and disappears shortly after birth.

What symptoms do people with RLS experience most? These are: painful muscle spasms in the legs, generally in the calves, a nagging feeling of worms crawling up the legs, tingling, itching, burning or throbbing in the legs, feeling as if the blood vessels in the legs are full of carbonated water, an overwhelming need to move the feet and legs. The effects of these symptoms can be mild or completely unbearable. 80-90% of RLS patients who show these symptoms also suffer from PLMS, i.e. periodic limb movements during sleep.

Since there is no cure for Restless Legs Syndrome, specialists focus on treating or relieving symptoms. Many prescribed medications have their own unpleasant side effects. Opioids, benzodiazepines, and antiepileptic drugs reduce the feeling of crawling, but they can be dangerous or lose their effects when taken for long periods. Doctors also prescribe dopamine or medications that increase iron levels to induce a feeling of relief in the patient. Fortunately, drugs that eliminate dopamine and glutamate imbalances are quite effective, but some experience troublesome side effects, for example, about 20% of patients develop impulse control disorders.

New findings recently published in the journal Sleep Medicine indicate that cannabis use has made it easier for people with severe restless leg syndrome (RLS) to improve their condition.

To start with, research shows that CBD oil acts as a powerful sleep inducer that allows people with chronic pain to get a full sleep. Patients with severely disturbed glutamate levels often complain of a lack of sleep. CBD oil can actually aid glutamate signaling to reduce RLS symptoms. In addition, due to difficulty sleeping, RLS patients may develop other problems such as anxiety, depression, decreased mental functioning, and wear and tear of the body’s immune system. Fortunately, CBD contains natural anxiolytic and antidepressant properties. This cannabinoid can also provide the body with antioxidants that can help improve the immune system.

CBD oil also affects dopamine by increasing the amount of neurotransmitters in patients’ brains. Stabilizing dopamine levels seems to minimize involuntary movements in people with any movement disorder.

Since CBD oil can directly affect the body’s nervous system, it can also relieve symptoms of many different neurological disorders, such as RLS, Parkinson’s disease, and more. It does this through the body’s endocannabinoid system. Cannabinoids act like neuronal construction workers, re-paving the main pathways of the brain so that neurons and glial cells can work better together. Rather than simply holding dopamine in the brain as dopamine agonists do, cannabis appears to improve the health of neural networks involved in cognition, emotions, eating, motor control, and more. Better infrastructure leads to better results. Some argue that cannabinoids are better than dopamine agonists.

One 2017 study found that inhaled medicinal cannabis reduced symptoms of RLS. Five of the six subjects said they experienced complete remission of symptoms after consuming cannabis. After the cannabis treatment was completed, all participants experienced an improvement in sleep. Another study found that Sativex (a cannabis-based sublingual spray that contains CBD and THC, officially adopted as a pharmaceutical drug in most European countries) helped 40-50% of RLS patients with their sleep problems.

Hemp contains many different chemicals, so it’s not clear which of them benefit from RLS, but CBD is suspected to be a key ingredient in cannabis in RLS. Why? Well, CBD has powerful muscle relaxant and nerve-calming effects that can really ease the discomfort of restless legs. Also, just like iron and magnesium, CBD can be taken orally or topically on the legs.

So far, there is no clinical research on the therapeutic properties of cannabis in RLS. There is currently one company trying to develop a type of gum that may be able to treat RLS. AXIM Biotechnologies, Inc., a world leader in cannabinoid research and development, recently announced that it had entered into a service contract with the Israeli CRO to begin a clinical trial supporting the concept of combining cannabidiol and gabapentin in chewing gum as a way to treat restless syndrome. legs in patients.

We’re already familiar with CBD, but what is the other drug in gum? Gabapentin is often used along with other medications to reduce seizures. It can also be valuable in reducing nerve pain when it is a symptom of herpes zoster. In some cases, gabapentin causes drowsiness, dizziness, loss of coordination, fatigue, blurred / double vision, unusual eye movement, tremors, and / or swelling in the hands and feet. AXIM chewing gum uses a combination of CBD and gabapentin and is currently the second phase of this single-center, double-blind, randomized trial in which its effectiveness will be tested in approximately 30 participants with RLS.

According to Dr. Stuart Titus, president of Medical Marijuana, Inc., a major investor in AXIM Biotechnologies, Inc .: „Research shows that RLS can be associated with abnormalities in the nervous system … We believe that advances in cannabinoid clinical research can be instrumental in helping people to experience symptom relief from difficult and debilitating neurological disorders. ‚

Like many breakthroughs in cannabis and cannabinoid research, the one about cannabis use for RLS began after doctors noticed that patients were using cannabis and getting results. Maybe the revolution will not finally be about better cannabis-based research. Maybe a new practice of listening to patients and treating them seriously will come into force before our very eyes?

HEMP AND BRAIN AGING

Who among us does not experience this frustrating state of forgetting what you did yesterday or what you wanted to say? Imagine this condition worsening and then becoming an inseparable part of each day. Our brain can play such tricks in old age. Today, my own translation of a text that appeared this month on one of the Canadian cannabis websites, and deals with the latest research related to brain dementia and how cannabinoids deal with it. Enjoy reading!

New German Studies on How Cannabis Reduces Brain Aging

Since the discovery of the endocannabinoid system in the early 1990s, scientists have been busy breaking down this network of signals and receptors all over the body. One of the most recent discoveries about the role of the endocannabinoid system comes from the University of Bonn in Germany. New research is revealing important links between aging, neurological inflammation and cannabinoid signaling. The team of researchers is laying the groundwork for future links between the recent study „Cannabinoid receptor 1 signaling on hippocampal GABAergic neurons affects microglial activity” and therapeutic doses of THC. This is one of a growing body of research into cannabis and dementia.

Microglial? GABAergic? Cannabinoid receptor 1? What does it all mean?

The CB1 and CB2 endocannabinoid receptors are the mailboxes of internal chemical communication. Our bodies sense stress and release information on how to deal with it through chemical transmissions. These mailboxes – the receptors – receive them. Different areas of the body contain different concentrations of cannabinoid receptors, with CB1 mainly found in diffusion throughout the brain.

Cannabis cannabinoids like THC and CBD work in this chemical communication network and small mailboxes to influence how our bodies respond to various stressors. For example, when smoking THC, most people feel relaxed and euphoric. Why? The CB1 receptor in our brains makes a strong bond with THC, which leads to its psychoactive effects.

Now let’s move from CB1 cells to the second area of interest in this study, microglial cells. To date, neuroscientists have discovered nine different types of microglia cells. While each of them has individual characteristics, they all seem focused on protecting the brain from damage. Given that they make up 10-15 percent of all brain cells, their importance cannot be emphasized enough. Some of their jobs include cleaning up the plaque of the brain, getting rid of unused neurons, and stopping infectious invaders. Their primary function is to act as the brain’s immune defense – which means managing inflammation in the first place.

An inflammatory response is not always a healthy response. It can quickly get out of hand and damage even healthy brain tissue. Scientists are now confirming that there is a second player in our brain that controls an over-excitable defense system. Endocannabinoids, both those naturally produced in our bodies and those derived from plants such as cannabis, inhibit overactive inflammatory responses (…)

There is a constant struggle for domination in our brain. Super excitable and inflammation-stimulating microglial cells on the one hand and the calming, inflammation-reducing response of our endocannabinoids on the other. Scientists have known for some time that microglia listen to endocannabinoids, so inflammation is kept in check in a healthy body. What killed the wedge in scientists’ heads – until recent research – is how they communicate. After all, microglial cells do not contain cannabinoid receptors. In other words, these two aspects of our brain don’t speak the same language.

The breakthrough was a 2018 publication in Frontiers in Molecular Neuroscience exploring how these two opposing forces communicate. Scientists believe that a specific group of CB1-loaded neurons serves as intermediaries, essentially translators. These cells are a GABAergic agent. Neurons contain many CB1 receptors, so endocannabinoids can both talk to them and control their activity.

According to one of the study leaders: “We studied laboratory mice in which the receptor in these neurons was turned off. The inflammatory activity of microglial cells was continuously increased in these animals. ‚ Using genetically modified laboratory mice, the authors of this study discovered that CB1 receptors are essential for controlling inflammatory responses in the brain.

What this means for the potential of cannabis and dementia

Inflammation is closely related to aging, at least as a central component of many age-related diseases such as dementia, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, disability and others. Chronic inflammation wreaks havoc on the brain. If left unexplored, it continues to destroy healthy tissue, even after the initial trigger is eradicated. Research on aging now focuses on both understanding and controlling inflammation, which is why the study from the University of Bonn is so important. The missing piece between neurological inflammation and endocannabinoid signaling is finally in place.

The team behind the University of Bonn research is slowly building a case of cannabis as a therapeutic agent for age-related diseases. In 2017, these researchers published a preliminary animal study on how cannabis reduces the aging of mice. In their groundbreaking study, mice were served low enough doses of THC to avoid inducing the so-called high. They found that he restored cognition in old mice.

Thanks to new research, a team in Germany is one step closer to making a cannabis treatment plan in geriatrics a reality. Taken together, both studies support more research into the use of cannabis for age-related neurological diseases. First, this early research proves that THC reduces the neurological signs of aging. Second, they show how it uses endocannabinoid signaling for this purpose. The road to a THC prescription to reduce the progression of dementia may still be a long way off, but at least aging has become much more exciting.

HEMP AND HYPERTENSION

We see more and more cases of stroke and heart attack in the families of our friends or our loved ones. Therefore, our attention was drawn to an article on the role of cannabis in regulating high blood pressure, which is known to be the beginning of the problems leading to the above-mentioned diseases. We present this article in its own translation, hoping that it may inspire someone to seek help for mother, grandfather or uncle in more alternative methods of treatment. Enjoy reading.

Cannabis and its effect on high blood pressure

Given the increasing prevalence of hypertension as countries liberalize cannabis laws, people want to know: what are the effects of cannabis on blood pressure? Do they lower blood pressure? The answers largely depend on who you ask or which research results you read.

One in three adults in the US has high blood pressure, a condition known as hypertension. Left unchecked, it can lead to cardiovascular disease, which is characterized by an increased risk of stroke, heart attack, and even heart failure. A number of factors, including poor diet, stress, inactivity, alcohol, and smoking, increase the risk of developing high blood pressure.

Some of the effects of cannabis on blood pressure, particularly the most severe, are well understood and documented. However, research studies describing other effects, especially long-term side effects as well as positive ones, are limited and often bear a bad design or the fact that results from animal studies are not always carefully transferable to humans.

In addition, many of the research findings are highly generalized, focusing on THC while neglecting research on many other cannabinoids. Logically, a cannabis strain with a high concentration of the psychoactive cannabinoid THC would give different results from a strain rich in highly non-toxic cannabinoid CBD.

Perhaps most frustratingly, however, is that published studies examining the differences between consumption methods – such as the effects of smoking cannabis versus consuming it in the form of food – are essentially non-existent.

With these limitations in mind, we present what we know.

Short-term vs. long-term effects of cannabis consumption

Does cannabis raise blood pressure? Research suggests that shortly after consumption, occasional users will experience a mild to moderate dose-dependent increase in blood pressure and heart rate, followed by a moderate antihypertensive effect (i.e. lowering blood pressure). The onset of the strongest effects, such as increased heart rate and blood pressure, occur within 10 to 15 minutes of ingestion.

Users can become tolerant to initial effects over a period of days to weeks, and repeated use is associated with a reduction in heart rate and blood pressure immediately after consumption. Anecdotally, many people report that cannabis helps them maintain normal blood pressure levels, which is backed up by research findings.

Here’s one interesting „non-trivial tidbit” that you can use to impress your friends at your next cannabis-inspired intellectual discussion: posture during consumption can affect blood pressure. Suppose you are sitting or lying on the couch – your blood pressure will increase temporarily immediately after taking it. When you get up, your blood pressure will drop. In fact, if you get up suddenly, your blood pressure may drop significantly enough to make you feel dizzy enough to make you feel like you’re about to pass out (don’t worry, it’s unlikely you’ll actually drift away).

On the other hand, if you are standing while you absorb cannabis, your blood pressure may drop even though it was not rising initially. However, there is not much published data verifying this effect. […]

Cannabis and stroke or heart attack

Regarding the risk of serious adverse events, the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults study at the University of California, San Francisco (Coronary Artery Development Risk in Young Adults – CARDIA), analyzing data from 3,617 African American and Caucasian adults over 15 years, found that there was no long-term causal relationship between cannabis consumption and the risk of heart attack or stroke.

However, there are a limited number of animal studies and human case reports that suggest an association between acute poisoning and a heart attack or heart attack. However, these findings were questioned in a 2006 report published in the Forensic Science, Medicine and Pathology Journal: „Despite the extreme popularity of the drug, reports of cannabis-related strokes and myocardial infarctions are so rare and still reported.”

Moreover, human case reports often fail to take into account the fact that in these rare situations people may have consumed cannabis in conjunction with alcohol, tobacco or other drugs simultaneously or shortly before the incident.

Nevertheless, a Harvard Medical School study found that within an hour after consuming cannabis (especially in at-risk populations such as seniors), the likelihood of having a heart attack increases fivefold. Risk returns to normal within two hours. It is worth noting that sex carries a comparable increase in risk. The question is: Does the combination of cannabis and sex increase your chances of having a heart attack exponentially? We look forward to seeing more Harvard studies to answer this question.

Is there a link between high blood pressure and cannabis treatment?

It has long been established that the body’s endocannabinoid system (whose naturally occurring chemicals behave similar to the cannabinoids found in cannabis) plays an important role in regulating many of the body’s key physiological functions, including cardiovascular function.

A growing body of research shows that anandamide – a naturally occurring form of THC in the body – relaxes the blood vessels, suggesting that by allowing blood to flow more freely, anandamide helps lower blood pressure.

It is worth noting that the US National Institute on Alcohol Abuse & Alcoholism published a report summarizing that „endocannabinoids tone the suppression of cardiac contractility in hypertension” and that „targeting the endocannabinoid system offers new therapeutic strategies for treating hypertension „.

The extent to which the endocannabinoid system plays a role in regulating blood pressure has long inspired scientists to investigate whether we could treat hypertension by manipulating the endocannabinoid system.

However, we are not there yet. Remarkably, despite the fact that cannabinoids have been studied for their potential as antihypertensive drugs since the 1970s, no cannabinoid-based drugs have been officially approved for the treatment of high blood pressure. Moreover, despite the ever-growing anecdotal evidence and numerous studies suggesting that regular cannabis use seems to produce long-term lower blood pressure levels, we lack rigorous human studies that would allow doctors to confidently say, „Use cannabis to treat your high blood pressure! „.

By developing our understanding of the role of cannabinoid receptors in regulating the cardiovascular system, we will soon be able to identify with greater certainty the therapeutic role of cannabinoids in controlling blood pressure.

MENOPAUSE AND CBD

MENOPAUSE AND CBD

Over the last two centuries, the average life expectancy of women has almost tripled, from 25 to 70 years. Women’s aging is associated with a gradual loss of female sex hormones, estrogen and progesterone. These diminish until it reaches the menopause; men don’t experience the same hormone decline that would require hormone replacement therapy.

Menopause occurs when a woman no longer has a menstrual cycle. This experience is due to the genetically programmed loss of follicles (structures containing eggs) in the ovaries. The condition can also occur when the ovaries are surgically removed. In both cases, the cessation of menstruation indicates a deficiency of the above-mentioned hormone estrogen. Menopause does not come suddenly, there is a phase called perimenopause, which often begins several years before the final menstrual cycle. The average age of menopausal women is now around 51, but it can be from the age of 40 to the early 60’s.

Early menopause usually occurs in women who have never had children or who smoke. Menopause is not a disease but has a number of symptoms. These include hot flashes, night sweats, palpitations, difficulty falling asleep, mood changes, vaginal dryness, forgetfulness, decreased sex drive, urine leakage, and joint problems. There are also additional health challenges associated with this hormone change, including an increased risk of certain types of cancer. On the other hand, treating cancer in women has been shown to accelerate the entry into menopause.

Thus, it appears that there is a significant interplay between hormones and disease risk, and the loss of menopausal hormones potentially affects all aspects of women’s health and quality of life. To date, the main treatment options have been hormone replacement therapy (with both estrogen and progesterone) or estrogen replacement therapy.

Estrogen is a steroid hormone and as such participates in the regulation of many cellular processes. It is essential for bone health as well as for women’s sexual health. Therefore, loss of estrogen is expected to be detrimental to these important aspects of physiology, and it is believed that replacing estrogen lost during the menopause will alleviate these deleterious effects. While the exchange of estrogen and progesterone has been shown to be very effective in relieving menopausal symptoms including hot flashes, night sweats, sexual dysfunction and insomnia, and in preventing bone loss (osteoporosis), it doesn’t come without a price. Preclinical data have shown that estrogens and progesterone are likely involved in the induction and progression of breast, endometrial, and ovarian epithelial cancer. This, combined with the already increased risk of developing cancer from aging, does not bode well for women looking to alleviate menopause with hormone replacement therapies. What are the alternatives?

The above data shows that menopause disrupts the endocannabinoid system in women because it is associated with a dysregulation of the endocannabinoid system. So it makes sense for some scientists to think that cannabis could replace high-risk therapies. There is extensive research into the complex role of the endocannabinoid system in female fertility, including the onset of menopause. Current research indicates that some fundamental changes occur in this system and related biological systems during the menopausal transition. The endocannabinoid system is the biological network of endocannabinoids and cannabinoid receptor proteins found in the central and peripheral nervous systems of mammals. This means that the network permeates the entire body and regulates many physiological and cognitive processes, including fertility.

The endocannabinoid system controls the interaction of cannabinoids like CBD with the body. Estrogen is one of the hormones that facilitate the proper functioning of the system. It achieves this by regulating the levels of fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH) in the blood. FAAH levels drop as estrogen production drops. During ovulation, estrogen and endocannabinoid levels are at their maximum. FAAH also facilitates the breakdown of endocannabinoid anandamide. Why is it important? Anandamide works as an ovary in the body and therefore helps the egg mature and release during ovulation. Another role of estrogen is to activate the endocannabinoid system to regulate the emotional response. These diminishing interactions between the endocannabinoid system and estrogen indicate that menopausal symptoms may be due to decreased endocannabinoid activity.

So the question is, can reversing endocannabinoid depletion with exogenous cannabinoids bring the system into balance? Indeed, such an explanation provides several promising studies showing the beneficial effects of cannabinoids on comorbidities in the menopause. For example, they have shown that cannabinoids provide protection against osteoporosis during the menopause. How does it happend? CB2 receptor is expressed in bone cells, and its activation stimulates bone formation and inhibits bone resorption. In studies, mice lacking the CB2 gene show low bone mass, suggesting that the physiological involvement of CB2 is related to the maintenance of bone balance during remodeling. Similarly, in humans, slight changes in the gene (called polymorphisms) that encode CB2, CNR2, are strongly associated with postmenopausal osteoporosis. Most importantly, preclinical studies have shown that a synthetic CB2-specific agonist reverses bone loss. This is tempting to speculate that cannabis such as THC and CBD may have the same effect through their interactions with the CB2 receptor, acting as cannabinoid drugs in the fight against osteoporosis.

Additionally, experimental evidence has shown that cannabinoids may protect against breast cancer. In the context of the menopause, this is extremely important as not only would cannabinoids reduce the risk of aging-related breast cancer, but also reduce the risks associated with hormone and estrogen replacement therapy. Cannabinoids have been shown to kill cancer cells, preventing them from growing and migrating throughout the body. In particular, THC has been shown to stop breast cancer cell proliferation by preventing the activation of the estrogen receptor through its E2 ligand.

But that’s not all of the benefits of taking cannabis during the menopause. As has been proven by numerous studies (we have already written about many of them on other occasions on this blog), CBD may also be beneficial in treating other symptoms of this unpleasant female ailment. We will discuss them briefly.

The first of these symptoms is one of the most common during menopause. Women experience hot flashes in the form of an intense build-up of heat in the body, starting with the chest and face and ending with sweating and irritability. The aforementioned endocannabinoid called anandamide helps regulate body temperature. CBD is believed to increase the levels of anandamide in the body by inhibiting the action of FAAH. The overall effect is an improved ability to control body temperature.

Next up is insomnia, which occurs in menopausal women as a result of other symptoms such as migraines, hot flashes and joint stiffness. An untreated lack of proper sleep often affects other areas of a woman’s life. This can worsen menopausal symptoms and lead to mood swings. CBD has been documented as a very effective natural alternative for treating sleep problems. This is because it has an anxiolytic and relaxing effect that can support deeper, more restful sleep.

Hormonal changes that occur during the menopause can cause several painful conditions. These include the aforementioned joint stiffness, migraines, and muscle aches. CBD can be a very effective pain reliever, and many people are already using CBD to treat pain in a clinical setting. Scientists have documented the beneficial aspects of CBD in muscle and joint pain, and CBD has been shown to inhibit certain cellular processes that can cause swelling and pain. The anti-inflammatory effects of CBD can therefore help menopausal women be more productive in their daily activities.

Finally, mood swings during the menopause as a result of fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone. Mood swings often accompany anxiety, so in fact, menopause and anxiety go hand in hand. The stressful life changes that occur during this time can be the source of this anxiety. CBD has the ability to inhibit anxiety and improve mood. Extensive human and animal studies have shown the anxiolytic (i.e. reducing anxiety and insecurity) effects of CBD. This cannabinoid is used to treat a variety of mood disorders, including anxiety and depression.

There are currently no studies looking directly at cannabis use for relieving menopausal symptoms. Nevertheless, we have the aforementioned studies highlighting the benefits of cannabinoids in comorbidities that occur during menopause, such as bone loss and cancer risk (especially breast cancer). Remember, however, that the approach to therapy should be individualized, as each woman experiences different symptoms during the menopause. Women seem to be reluctant to use hormone replacement therapies, especially cancer survivors. So why not use a mild and pleasant alternative? Menopause now affects nearly a billion women worldwide. Its ramifications are exhausting and can affect your entire life. The fair sex should not suffer in silence without treatment. Cannabis can help and it is worth taking advantage of this offer.

HEMP AND ORAL CANCER

Along with the spread of legal medical marijuana in many countries, including Poland, its medical potential is being researched in more detail. Today we will present the results of observations and studies on the effects of medical marijuana on oral cancer.

What is oral cancer? It is a type of cancer that can occur in different parts of the mouth. Until now, doctors treat him in the same way as cancers of the neck and head. There are two categories within the classification of this type of cancer: oral cancer, which occurs in parts of the mouth such as the lips, tongue, gums, and inside the cheeks, and oropharyngeal cancer, which occurs in the mouth and throat, including the base of the mouth. tongue, tonsils and other parts of the middle throat.

The origins of research and diagnosis in the field of oral cancer were very uncertain. When dentists or doctors found changes in the patient’s mouth, they offered a painful biopsy. Patients then waited a long time for laboratory test results to see if the lesion was cancerous or not. Doctors did not have the appropriate equipment to look at lesions in early development and decide if they needed a biopsy for further diagnosis. They also did not know much about the specific causes of oral cancer. Except where alcohol and tobacco are known and relatively obvious risk factors, doctors could not tell whether oral cancer was a genetic or viral disease. Accordingly, by the time of actual diagnosis, most oral cancers were in an advanced stage. Treatment typically involved radiation therapy to shrink the tumor, followed by neck and head surgery to remove it. In some cases, the surgery disfigured the patient.

With increasing education and public awareness of oral cancer, we have seen improvements in early detection as well as treatment. Over the past fifty years, improvements in surgical procedures and radiation therapy, in addition to adding chemotherapy to oral cancer therapy, have been beneficial in combating the spread of oral cancer to other areas of the body. The more improvements are available to the tools used to detect precancerous oral lesions, fewer people will die from this disease.

What are the common symptoms of oral cancer? These can include: lumps or bumps, lumps / swellings, crusts, rough spots or eroded areas on the gums, lips, or other parts of the inside of the mouth; unexplained bleeding in the mouth; development of red or white spots in the mouth; difficulty speaking, swallowing, chewing, or moving the tongue or jaw; unexplained numbness, tenderness, pain or loss of sensation in any area of the mouth, face, or neck; permanent sores on the neck, mouth or face that bleed easily and do not heal within weeks; ear ache; chronic pharyngitis, hoarseness or voice change; changes in the fit of dentures or teeth. If any of the above symptoms occur, contact your doctor immediately.

Oral cancer occurs worldwide with high morbidity and mortality. For the time being, it unfortunately shows low survival rates and poor prognosis for recovery. Some mouth cancer patients also find it difficult to recover, others eat, drink, breathe and swallow, which can lead to nutritional deficiencies. Cancer can affect speech and the procedure can distort your face.

If you get radiation therapy, it can make your mouth dry and affect your taste buds. Surgery involving the mouth, throat, lips, jaw, or tongue can change appearance, and reconstructive surgery and a modern surgical approach are even better because they cause less scarring.

While oral cancer has the above physical symptoms and effects, it can also have psychological effects. Coping with a diagnosis of oral cancer can be difficult, both emotionally and practically. Most likely, you will feel scared, nervous and confused, which can also cause other problems, including depression. A person with oral cancer may find it difficult to communicate with others, may have low self-esteem, and be socially isolated. In a study of 206 patients published in the Journal of Clinical & Diagnostic Research, most patients diagnosed with oral cancer suffered emotionally and had a low quality of life before surgery due to a lack of the emotional support they needed. The conclusions of the study indicate that meeting the psychological needs of patients with oral cancer is essential and that physicians should include psychological counseling in the patient’s treatment plan.

Treatment for oral cancer depends on the stage and location of the cancer, personal preferences, and overall health. Your doctor may prescribe one or a combination of several treatments, including surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and targeted drug therapy.

A surgeon can perform any type of surgery, for example, remove a tumor, cut a patient’s neck, to get rid of cancerous lymph nodes and other cancer-related tissue in your neck, if your cancer cells begin to spread to your neck and lymph nodes. It can also reconstruct the oral cavity, transplant skin, bones or muscles from other parts of the body for reconstruction, and finally it can replace natural teeth with dental implants. Surgery, however, carries some risks, such as infection, bleeding, difficulty swallowing, talking or eating, and changes in appearance. The patient may need a special tube to help him eat, drink or take medications. The tube is for temporary use and your doctor will insert it into your stomach through your nose. If you need it for a long time, your doctor will insert a tube through your skin into your stomach. In some cases, a breathing tube may be necessary, but it is usually temporary.

In the case of radiation therapy, the doctor uses high-energy protons or X-ray beams to kill cancer cells. If you’re in the early stages of mouth cancer, you may only need radiation therapy and no other treatment. In some cases, the surgeon will either use radiation therapy after surgery or combine it with chemotherapy. Side effects of oral cancer radiotherapy can include: caries, dry mouth, jaw damage, trismus, fatigue, bleeding gums, and reddening-like reactions.

Chemotherapy, in turn, uses drugs to kill cancer cells. Sometimes your doctor combines chemotherapy with radiation therapy to make the radiation therapy more effective. The side effects of chemotherapy usually depend on the medications you are taking. However, the most common side effects include hair loss, nausea, and vomiting.

Time for targeted drug therapy. With this therapy, target drugs alter some aspects of cancer cells and influence their growth. The only drug approved for the treatment of neck and head cancer is Cetuximab (Erbitux). Your doctor may combine targeted medications with radiation therapy or chemotherapy.

How and why can medical marijuana be an effective treatment for oral cancer? Hundreds of medical and scientific studies around the world confirm that cannabis can kill cancer cells – even those that are traditionally resistant to cancer treatment, such as in the case of oral cancer. However, research from the United States shows that the cannabinoids in cannabis may be the key to treating oral cancer cells.

THC is the main cannabinoid found in cannabis and contains many of the plant’s medicinal benefits. A 2010 study entitled ‚Cannabinoids inhibit the cellular respiration of human oral cancer cells’ investigated how this cannabinoid acts on cancer cells. Scientists have discovered several major benefits of THC, including that it interferes with the mitochondrial function of cancer cells by inhibiting cellular respiration. TCH also has antitumor activity that is toxic to malignant tumors.

Oral cancer cells are highly resistant to most anti-cancer drugs, which is why researchers from the Department of Pediatrics at New York State University were so interested in discovering the potential of THC to treat this form of cancer.

The results of this study prove that marijuana-based drugs can be used to treat even the most resistant forms of cancer. This alone is evidence that the US government and other countries should rethink the classification of marijuana, at least to allow further medical research.

In addition to ongoing research into the potential of medical marijuana for oral cancer, it should not be forgotten that it can also treat the numerous side effects and symptoms of this type of cancer. Scientists and researchers have found through many years of research and testing that medical marijuana is effective in treating or relieving nausea, vomiting, pain, anxiety, depression and loss of appetite.

As medical marijuana continues to grow in popularity, the methods of getting it into the body continue to evolve. While many associate cannabis with smoking, it is not the healthiest option for those with mouth cancer. When you inhale tobacco smoke, most of the cannabinoids enter your body through your lungs and then enter your bloodstream. This direct exchange provides the fastest results compared to other delivery methods. However, as has already been said, this is not the healthiest way to treat mouth cancer. Instead, you can try other methods such as: vaping, ingestion in the form of food, juices, ointments and creams, transdermal, sublingual administration, and finally hemp oil. However, the most important thing is to find a good specialist who will advise you and try to choose the right dose. Due to the scant amount of research on this subject, it is a dream come true for now. Therefore, it remains only to hope for more extensive research in the field of oral cancer treatment, as well as greater availability of medical marijuana in our home market. Especially since we are writing these words on the day when the first batch of medical marijuana from Canada arrived in Poland.

How to lead a healthy lifestyle?

Contrary to appearances, leading a healthy lifestyle is not easy. It is not limited to physical activity and diet. Health is a fairly broad concept. It includes both the physical and the mental part, which interact and, in a way, are dependent on each other. It’s hard to consider a person who sticks to a balanced diet, but does not sleep half a night of stress as completely healthy. Check how to lead a healthy lifestyle and what is worth paying attention to!

First, change your habits!

The first thing you can do to improve your health and well-being is to change your habits and daily routine. It is worth changing things that adversely affect your mental and physical condition. For some, it may be too late to go to bed (sleep deficit), too long and frequent watching TV, high-calorie snacks (empty calories), drinking alcohol, smoking, etc. Unfortunately, despite the growing awareness, still too many people do not care about healthy habits. The so-called fast life and the pursuit of money often make you forget about yourself and your health.

When making changes, start with the general idea. To feel better, you need to eat healthy, exercise regularly, drink plenty of water a day and reduce stress as much as possible. It is he who is responsible for many diseases (including autoimmune diseases), energy reduction and poor mental state.

Balance is the key to success

To live a healthy life, you need to maintain your natural balance. It concerns both the balance in life and the balance of vitamins, minerals and other ingredients in the diet. For starters, try:

  • Exercise for a minimum of 45 minutes four / five times a week.
  • Drink at least 2.5 liters of still water a day.
  • Eat 5-6 small meals a day, avoid overeating and starving. It’s a good idea to introduce lean meat, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, nuts, andinto your diet superfoods (ginger, garlic, CBD hemp seeds, avocado, etc.).
  • Avoid saturated fat, cholesterol, salt and sugar in the diet.
  • Change unhealthy snacks to vegetables, fruits, smoothies, and nuts.
  • Avoid watching TV for too long (especially in the evening). Ventilate bedrooms well and go to bed early. Sleep affects not only well-being, but also immunity. Try to sleep 7-8 hours.

The well-known Polish saying „in a healthy body, healthy spirit” is completely true. To maintain a healthy lifestyle, it is essential to control your diet, exercise and emotions. Yoga and meditation classes are a very effective combination of both. Positive thinking, the ability to forgive and accept failure, peace, openness to people and gratitude are also very important. Contrary to appearances, it is from such seemingly small matters that the spiritual interior of a man consists.

Through the stomach to health

At each stage of life, man has different requirements and needs in terms of optimal nutrition. For example, infants may initially need to be fed every 2 hours, until they eat less often and become more receptive to solids over time. Older people have lower caloric requirements than adolescents. It is similar with women and men – their required daily calories are different. In order to take care of healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle, first of all you should eat „clean”. Most of the foods you eat should consist of healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Healthy lifestyle = physical activity

Any physical activity (it can be calming and leisurely yoga as well as fitness classes) contributes significantly to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Lack of exercise can manifest itself in problems with metabolism, immunity, lead to obesity, and all this, in turn, increases the risk of diseases that are dangerous to health.

Regular exercise, such as Nordic walking, or a simple long walk in the fresh air can also prevent age-related decline in muscle mass and strength, and improve balance, flexibility and endurance in the elderly.

Even moderate exercise can help prevent coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure. Movement also affects bone density – so it can help prevent osteoporosis. Ultimately, regular exercise can help increase self-esteem and confidence, reduce stress and anxiety, improve mood and overall mental health.

Stress Your Enemy – 6 Ways to Soothe Your Spirit

Stress can have many causes. In the modern world, however, it is most often caused by the ubiquitous pressure coming from various aspects of life (not only work). In these situations, the body begins to produce cortisol. The stress hormone itself is not bad – it activates the body to a „fight” state. This can be called motivating stress, which sometimes helps us stay strong for the so-called. flight or fight. The longer exposure to stress, the greater the amount of cortisol. Such a long-term excess of this hormone is neither positive nor even healthier.

Stress affects the body in many ways: both physically and emotionally. However, there are a few simple tips that can help you get rid of the burdensome stress and stay healthy.

  1. Healthy eating replenishes the body with the essential element – magnesium, which is famous for the fact that it naturally supports the fight against stress. It also reduces the body’s susceptibility to its effects.
  2. Reducing smoking and drinking alcohol also solves many problems related to stress, or worse – addiction. Stimulants usually multiply problems – put the „drink” aside to relax and replace it with, for example, an infusion of hemp leaves or yerba mate.
  3. Exercise and the endorphins produced during it are a natural remedy for relieving tension and stress. Sometimes it doesn’t take much – all you need is a lonely, long walk in the fresh air to soothe your shattered nerves.
  4. Prioritize. Separate responsibility for the things you have influence over and don’t worry about the things you have no control over. If you work for a long time without a vacation, take a break and rest.
  5. Consider practicing calming and balancing your body and mind. It involves paying attention to thoughts and feelings in a way that increases our ability to cope with difficult situations and make wise choices
  6. Lack of sleep promotes feelings of stress. Sleep at least 7 hours a day.

There are many aspects to a healthy lifestyle. It’s hard to enter all of them at once, but each small step brings you closer to health – which is the most precious thing you have and one of those you can really easily lose. Take care of yourself.
